Okay, so you all probably have them — TBR Piles. For those of you who might not recognize the term, that’s to-be-read pile. Mine is no longer a pile, but piles…no make that mountains. At last count, I had more than 400 books. Crazy, I know, particularly since I read so slowly. But I can’t make myself part with them unless I’ve read them. I’ve bought many, those by friends and those that just called to me because of the storyline. Others I’ve been given or received as freebies at conferences. Actually, I have read some. They’re keepers because they’re written by my friends, critique partners and fellow Noodlers. The first picture is mainly research books and writing books. The other is just a portion of the novels (overwhelmingly romance with some historical novels and mysteries thrown in) hanging out in my office, watching me write my own books.

So, anyone have a bigger TBR pile than me? If so, does your hubby come into your office, shake his head and laugh? :)

Ah, Trish? Sweetie? I think you might have a little problem. Okay, scratch that. Your TBR pile is not a pile. It’s a MOUNTAIN. And it’s BIG.

Um … maybe it would be a good idea if you didn’t buy anymore books until you finish these? Yes, i think that would be a very good idea. Trust me. :-)

    Hugs,

Now that’s a large tbr pile. I don’t have one right now but when I do it’s never more than 4 or 5 books high :)

My TBR piles are stretched out to feign the appearance of smallness :) And so DH doesn’t have 12 cows. My shelf is three stakes high and three deep. I have a basket full next to the shelf and 2 small bookshelves at school.

Although I don’t think I have you beat!

Not 400, but I also have piles. And wishlists at amazon.com. I got bored one day and sorted them by author. I used to adore Teresa Medeiros, but now I have 4 of her books in my TBR that I haven’t touched. And I don’t know the last In Death book I read. I have books from conferences and books I bought new, and books from the UBS (you know, when you find a new author and you have to read EVERYTHING). I can’t even walk out of the library without armloads. I’m a junkie.

Mary, I think this is the best thing we can be a junkie with. I’ve always said I don’t drink, I don’t smoke, I buy books. :)

  6. MaryF says:

I say the same thing, Trish. Most of the time, it’s true ;)

Well, I drink Coca-Colas. Coffee and Red Bull. My DH hid the Colas from me today because I was up until three o’clock in the morning WIRED. I can’t stop drinking them. In fact, I’m probably going to drink another before I go to bed. LOL!

I have more, and not so neatly arranged. All mine end up in the attic in 20 gallon Rubbermaid tubs. What happens is, my shelves overflow and I start filling a tub. Whenever we clean house in a mad frenzy because company’s coming (the only time cleaning happens), DH glares at the tub or tubs and says he’s going to take them to the attic and put them with the rest. I say, “Yes, but THIS tub you HAVE to bring back down! It’s my good books that I want to read! Reading is my job!” So the tub goes up–and never comes back down.

Sometimes I venture into tubland, in the dark heat of the attic, down the narrow aisle with tubs stacked up head-high on either side, and try to find a book, but not often, because it’s scary. And I can’t lift the tubs.

I don’t know how many tubs are up there, but it’s a lot of them. We can’t ever move.

I bought three more books today. And lo and behold, one of them I already had. Sigh.

  10. Trish Milburn says:

LOL, Mary. I’ve done that too. Jody, I’m going to have to come over and see Tubland sometime. :) And if hubby every says anything, just say “comic books”. :)

Oh, my Gosh, Mary!! I thought I was the only one who did that. I’ve done it twice. Once because it was a reissue, so that really wasn’t my fault, but the other was. I think all in all, I have about twenty TBR books and I just discovered Judith Ivory, so it’s only going to get bigger. Matter-a-fact, I think I’ll hop back over to Amazon. I feel an urge coming on.

My TBR pile is now manageable since I can’t afford to buy all the books that I want. I mainly take them out of the library now, but I’m constantly rotating at least 2 or 3 books, since I like to read across genres.

  13. Trish Milburn says:

Elizabeth, there are plenty of library books that make it into my house too. Hello, my name is Trish, and I’m a book addict.

  14. Esri/Kiki says:

I’m wondering if the best thing to do with books from authors you want to help (like personal friends), would be to sell them, donate them to a library, or pass them on, in the hopes of hooking more people.

Excellent, that was really well explained and helpful
