It’s been awhile since I’ve had the opportunity to blog about TV viewing, so I thought I’d talk about the new show Castle, which debuted Monday night. I was looking forward to this mainly because it stars Nathan Fillion, and I think he’s a complete hoot. He plays a mystery novelist who initially helps with a case and then decides he wants to tag along with the determined female detective because he wants to do research on a new character based on her. Of course, there is tension and witty banter galore. I loved how Fillion brought his trademark style (great one-liners) to the character, but it’s still different from his Captain Mal days on Firefly and Serenity. For one thing, he has a teenage daughtere and a mom who is all over the “graydar” dating pool.
For the record, Fillion is like this in person too. I met him briefly and went to his panels at Dragon*Con last year, and he and the other Firefly cast members there kept everyone laughing. I’m really glad to see him with another starring role, and I’m liking the casting of Stana Kanic opposite him. There were a few cliched parts, but overall it was a solid pilot. Sometimes it takes actors awhile to build the chemistry between them, but I’m already seeing it in Fillion and Stanic. I’m looking forward to seeing what future episodes have in store.
Anyone else see it? What did you think?

Loved Castle! And I loved the cameo by James Patterson & Stephen J. Cannell.

I loved it! I loved the chemistry between him and his daughter, too, and him and his mom. I think it’s very unusual to see that in a pilot.

There were way more clichés than I liked, but I agree the chemistry was good and I love Nathan Fillion. We got hooked with “Apples! Apples! Apples!” and loved it from then on.

I’m watching it, and I’m enjoying it. I haven’t seen him before that I know of, but I heard somewhere that he’s Canadian, which always scores in my books.

I missed the pilot, but Tivo’d Monday nights episode and watched it last night. Hubby and I both enjoyed it. We now have our DVR set to record every show. I loved Firefly and am so happy to see Capt. Mal in another role!
